49 'LINTER - ZOUTLEEUW 2018 VREDESJAAR' (ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARMISTICE 2018)

Linter

This project is designed to reinforce the regional identity of the residents of the two municipalities and the surrounding region. After all, when anyone thinks of WWI, they immediately think of the trench warfare that took place in the Westhoek. However, the fighting on the Gete Line, in which the Belgian army halted the German invasion and the gruesome retaliation of the Germans on the local population, has largely been forgotten. Information about this common past has enhanced the individual nature of each of these beautiful villages in their unaltered landscape. The goal of organising joint projects around WWI within a broader context of peace initiatives is to promote the interweaving of cultural life in both municipalities.
