61 UNDER THE CHURCH TOWER: RENOVATION AND EXTENSION OF PARISH HALL AT SINT-HILARIUS BIERBEEK

Bierbeek

Village life under the church tower used to be one of the main leisure activities. Times change and people are becoming increasingly mobile, so that leisure time is not necessarily spent in one’s own village. Bierbeek still has an extensive, lively village scene, however. For instance, there is the orchestra Koninklijke Harmonie Sint Hilarius with more than 80 playing members, who rehearse in the parish hall at the church of Sint Hilarius. At present, this hall is far too small for the entire orchestra. Other groups are also having to relocate to different halls for larger activities (including the Ziekenzorg support group for people with chronic diseases) (problem 1).

Moreover, the hall is not adapted to today’s needs, so that some parish associations no longer use these facilities. As a result, another slice of rich village life is disappearing (problem 2).

The goal of the project is to extend the hall in order to address problem 1.
In addition, the related infrastructure (kitchen, storage, toilets, etc.) will be renovated in order to address problem 2.
