With this project, we realise one permanent section in the visitor centre that is being set up in the historic town hall of Zoutleeuw.
The Getestreek (Gete area)* is one of the typical landscapes of the Hageland: an example of a preserved agricultural landscape with much cultural-historical heritage and high nature values. The visitor centre aims to bring the landscape story of this piece of Hageland more to life and to tie the many small-scale elements (from the past to the present) together in clear storytelling with contemporary narrative techniques, both inside the visitor centre and outside, to interesting locations in the field.
Various existing recreational products will be strung together in the visitor centre in one place in one story. It will be a base for anyone who wants to explore the region, an important and necessary condition to promote tourist growth. Residents and local schools will be actively introduced to the landscape stories of this piece of Hageland. The visitor centre will also be the ideal base for all kinds of initiatives in the region.
