The municipality of Scherpenheuvel-Zichem wanted to commemorate WWI in 2018 through various initiatives. To achieve this it was eager to hear how the inhabitants of the municipality, in particular in the various villages of the municipality, experienced the end of WWI in 1918 and the years that followed. The various initiatives included a peace march with local primary school pupils, 'The end of WWI in our town’, WWI-related photos in the streets, a torchlight procession along the various war memorials, a mini exhibition commemorating WWI in local primary schools and decorations on the local war memorials.
