65 ARTISTIC HERITAGE ON THE HERMANSHEUVEL

Bekkevoort

This project concerns the development, production and installation of a sculpture on the Hermansheuvel in Assent to provide a visual representation of the protected Middle Neolithic archaeological site.

The sculpture is made of metal and Corten steel and is an abstract reference to a hunter-gatherer, a tulip vase and flint stone. A bench has been set into the work and an inscription referring to location and has been added to the artwork.

The sculpture is installed near the archaeological site with a view over the Neolithic ramparts.

The whole was unveiled on Open Monument Day on 8 September 2019 with guided heritage walks and an exhibition of archaeological finds from the site.
