With Hortus Hugardis, the municipality of Hoegaarden is expanding an existing green meeting place and strengthening its content. By removing physical and aesthetic barriers, the residential care centre is better integrated into Hoegaarden Park. Its central location, close to the residential care centre, a social housing estate and the municipal school, makes the site ideal for connecting different target groups.
Special attention is paid to the residents of the residential care centre, for whom outdoor space, social interaction and connection with the local community are essential. The site encourages people to come together and to re-appreciate nature and the countryside. In addition, there is a focus on greening and softening with a view to water buffering, biodiversity and small-scale activities. Through an educational approach, children and young people are also involved in the climate and biodiversity story.
