56 LANDSCAPING AND REFURBISHMENT AT GRABBELPAS FACILITIES Glabbeek
Situated just outside the centre of the village of Glabbeek is a four-hectare former military estate at Glabbeek-Attenrode.
The municipal authorities want to gradually improve the site so that it becomes more useful and more attractive. In this project, the aim is to extend, improve and enhance the attractiveness of the accommodation and sports and play facilities for children and young people and the leisure possibilities on the site. There are plans to:
- landscape the outdoor environment of the children’s activities club and the grass areas;
- install outdoor play equipment;
- create a rest area for walkers and cyclists with picnic facilities;
- repair the front of the nearby hut.
At the same time, there is a desire to increase the site’s accessibility and its safety for children and vulnerable road users by:
- closing off the grassy areas to traffic, while retaining public access;
- reviewing traffic circulation on the estate as a whole in order to increase the accessibility of the different functions while at the same time protecting playing children;
- reinstalling the parking area at the public welfare centre.
