41 'HAGELAND WARM WIELERLAND' (HAGELAND WELCOMES CYCLISTS)

Hageland+

The cycling race "Dwars door het Hageland” on 5 August 2017 was an opportunity to recount Hageland’s cycling past in a modern-day story. We focused on the positive aspects of the Hageland countryside; the slopes of the Hageland hills, unpaved roads, starting points and arrivals in the small Hageland towns. The project 'Hageland Warm Wielerland’ was built up entirely around this rural concept. Its aim was to revive cycling as a village activity for its own residents and visitors in all municipalities and town along the route.

Ten municipalities wanted to use the "natural" media attention for this event to:

1. promote their hospitality via the Hageland cycling villages under the regional logo,

2. set up a structured partnership with local producers to this end,

3. with three installations that depict the regional identity of the Hageland, so that it appears in national media (wine, fruit, walking).

The municipalities and UNIZO were responsible for the development of the cycling villages, the provincial government  safeguarded regional identity and organise three landscape beacons.
